Internship Alumni Profiles

Wesley Lin

Involvement: He designed a Mid-Autumn Festival dinner poster and participated in gallery openings and artist receptions.

Growth: He learned how to communicate with clients, how to price design work appropriately, and how to build confidence in living independently abroad. The internship also strengthened his English communication skills.

Reflection: The experience deepened his appreciation for life in Western countries and later inspired him to use working holiday opportunities to explore himself further and pursue a Master’s degree in Brisbane.

Tina Tsai

Involvement: She was responsible for writing press releases, photographing events, creating graphic design work, participating in cultural banquets, and designing a film festival brochure and artist invitation materials.

Achievement: From having no experience writing English proposals, she eventually completed a proposal and saw her name published in a publication. This brought her a great sense of accomplishment.

Growth: The experience improved her professional ability, cross-cultural communication, language skills, teamwork, independence, and problem-solving skills. It also helped her gain a deeper understanding of herself.

Reflection: After the internship, she volunteered in the United States. Although the pandemic changed her career direction, the experience exposed her to many people and stories and inspired her to continue exploring life abroad in the future.

Yu-chia Ku

Involvement: She assisted with the association’s design work, including creating invitations for the Mid-Autumn Festival banquet, designing the cover of an arts festival publication, regularly updating the website, and organizing event information and photos.

Special Project: The arts festival cover design was especially meaningful. She developed four design versions based on the artist’s work and revised them repeatedly until the president selected the most suitable one.

Growth: She applied her academic design knowledge to real work, improved her time management and problem-solving skills, and became more independent and mature in daily life.

Reflection: Although her plan to pursue a Master’s degree in art in Australia was delayed by the pandemic, the internship gave her the international perspective and courage to start her own business and later expand to Australia.

Nancy Wang

Involvement: She assisted with administrative tasks, public relations, and program booklet preparation.

Memorable Experience: During her internship, she independently signed up for skydiving. Through that experience, she met several friends and realized that traveling alone could also bring meaningful connections and joy.

Growth: She developed stronger independence, gained a deeper understanding of herself, learned to solve problems, and became more comfortable enjoying personal time.

Reflection: The internship influenced her later life choices and strengthened her interest in the simple and balanced lifestyle she experienced in Australia.

Skye Chang

Involvement: She wrote English proposals and coordinated with painters and artists.

Memorable Experience: Although there was no single most memorable event, the people she met and the activities she joined remain vivid in her memory.

Growth: She learned the differences between living independently and living in a group, improved her writing skills, and became more familiar with local transportation.

Reflection: This internship was a major step beyond her comfort zone. It taught her to take responsibility while working freely and to believe that trying something new can lead to unexpected opportunities.

Shek Wing Yu

Involvement: He supported Fasca information sessions, event photography, flowchart and invitation design, news article writing, and took part in the Empowering Migrants Expo, where he witnessed performers and cultural displays from different backgrounds.

Memorable Experience: During a visit by their teacher, the group went to the Gold Coast for lunch. They were fortunate to witness a pelican feeding performance, which became a particularly memorable experience.

Growth: It was his first time living and working in a fully English-speaking country. This greatly increased his confidence in speaking English and deepened his understanding of Aboriginal Australian culture and stories.

Reflection: He experienced the relaxed lifestyle of foreigners and later spent considerable time finding a stable job after graduation. His internship encouraged him to step out of his comfort zone and explore the world.

Sami Chen

Involvement: She participated in local cultural exchange events and administrative work, including NAIDOC Week and Global Fair, contributing to event preparation, reception, documentation, translation, news writing, exhibition setup, and publicity design.

Special Project: Her participation in the NAIDOC Week opening ceremony was especially meaningful. It helped her understand how culture can be shared through visual communication and storytelling.

Growth: She experienced significant growth in work ability, cross-cultural communication, teamwork, independent living, and English communication. The internship also strengthened her confidence in facing the unknown.

Reflection: The experience encouraged her to move to Taipei after graduation to learn tattooing from scratch and continue exploring culture, design and artistic creation.

Yi-Ting Hsieh

Involvement: She worked on website development, poster design, and projects related to the Taiwan–Korea New Year pop-up exhibition.

Memorable Experience: She connected with alumni from Hungkuang University who had previously completed internships and heard many inspiring stories about their entrepreneurial journeys.

Growth: She learned how to build websites and developed practical web development skills.

Reflection: Seeing Taiwanese people working hard overseas to promote Taiwanese events deeply inspired her.

1Ting Chen

Involvement: She contributed to website design and development, promotional graphics, background research, editing and proofreading, event planning and on-site support, marketing materials, community festivals and events, interviews with community leaders and university alumni, market research, and exhibition tours and visitor engagement.

Achievement: Starting from scratch, she learned website design and gained many practical skills by working alongside the association’s technical staff.

Memorable Experience: She interviewed three market vendors. At first, she was nervous because she was not fluent in English and was afraid to start conversations. After spending time preparing interview questions and practicing with her partner, she discovered that the vendors were friendly and patient. The experience taught her that taking the first step is already a success.

Growth: Her greatest growth came from living independently. Compared with the convenience of daily life in Taiwan, living in Australia required her to manage everything from grocery shopping to cooking, and her cooking skills improved significantly.

Reflection: She was inspired by the Australian way of life and hopes to bring that attitude toward life back to Taiwan.

Advice: Two months is enough time to become part of the local community, build connections with people, and experience their way of life. It is a priceless memory and experience.

Hannah Chen

Involvement: She worked on website design and production, promotional graphics, information gathering, layout and proofreading, event planning and on-site support, marketing materials, community festivals and events, interviews with community leaders and university alumni, market research and information gathering, and exhibition tours and visitor interaction.

Special Project: She learned how to use AI to support website design and development, then completed the website content assigned to her. Seeing the project progress from learning to completion gave her a strong sense of accomplishment.

Memorable Experience: At the multicultural exhibition held at Brisbane City Hall on August 2, she introduced the exhibition to visitors from different countries. Although she was nervous because English is not her first language, she successfully challenged herself through conversation and became more confident speaking English. During her time off, she also traveled alone to Melbourne for the first time, managing everything from planning the itinerary to handling a flight-related problem.

Growth: She learned how to shop for groceries and prepare three meals a day, and gradually became more capable of solving problems independently while facing language and everyday challenges.

Reflection: She discovered that work and life can be balanced and hopes to find a lifestyle that allows her to work while also enjoying life fully.

Advice: Be brave and give it a try. The weather in July and August is comfortable, local people are friendly, and grocery shopping is convenient. Leaving your comfort zone to experience life in another country is a rare opportunity, so make the most of it and pursue the things you want to do.
